The photography and our emotions

In all artists' work, emotions are the basics of everything. First of all, the artist will create his work in relation to the emotions he feels at the present moment. But he will also work hard in order for the spectator to also feel a lot of emotions and thoughts once the work is done.

But first, let’s see what exactly is the photography

The first thing we can say is that its part of our 7 arts which is composed of architecture; sculpture; visual arts (painting, drawing, photography, etc.); music; literature (poetry or drama); performing arts (theatre, dance, mime, circus) and cinema.

We can think that it’s easy to become a photographer, that everyone can do it especially with all the phones we can buy with high-performance cameras. But actually it’s not the case. Because it requires discipline, strategy, rigor and a capacity to see the beauty in our quotidian surroundings that becomes invisible for some people.

The different stypes

Here we can talk about 2 types of photographers:

The realistic

The artistic

The realistic are the ones who will represent the world how it is at the present moment. They have to be objectives and to describe exactly what they see.

The artistic can do modifications to their photo. For example, they will use editing in order to show an imaginary world or to emphasize something.

The link the photography has with our emotions

It can be easy to access to the spectator's emotions. A single image, sound, or smell can take us back in time, at the moment where we felt a certain emotion or feeling to a greater or lesser extent.

The work of the photograph

It can be quite difficult to understand the artist's point of view. In photography, we can pretend that the artist wanted to spread a message or to freeze the time and show to all the generation the beauty of this world or give his opinion on a certain political or social event. It really depends on the author and we can't be certain of the thoughts of the artist without his sayings.

Depending on the context, the photo can be really strong

In this photo, we can see 2 athletes that are rising their arms up. The aim of this photographic was to denounce racial segregation in the United States.

If we see closely, we can see some details:

- The black socks: poverty

- The black scarf:  slavery

- The black gloves: the black panther's movement

So as we analyzed, a photo can be full of pieces of information that takes more and more importance depending on the context.

Most of the photographers want to think or to feel something deep inside us while watching their works of art

The work of the photo

A photo can be not artistic for everyone. As well for a painting won't be beautiful for everyone. But even if we think it's pretty or not, we always have an opinion on it. And this opinion requires our feeling.

As we said earlier, it was the principal aim of most of the photographers: to make us think and feel

It can have a certain power over us. By seeing a picture we can feel some sadness or be happy by remembering a precise moment. It can also make us go back to our youth.

Or it can just let us see his present.

It can make us think about political situations. In this case, the message the author wants to spread through his photo can be strong for some people.

How social media amplify our emotions

Social media are now part of our everyday lives. Indeed, many of us post pictures about our activities ourselves or artistic pictures. It's a place where we can see many amazing things and where people are not afraid to share their style and their ideas.

Social media permit us to show who we are

As I explained earlier, photography can touch our emotions and make us think. Thanks to social media, artists can reach more people than before. Because simply with a picture of their art posted on Instagram for example and with the use of the right hashtag, people from the entire world can see this artwork and not only people that come physically see the exposition.

For the majority of the artists, it is where the magic happens and where they can share their art with the world.

Social media are platforms that can make them know if their feed is well used.
