Street art x social media
Since the development and rise of social networks around 2010, a lot of social movements, styles, trends, arts and minor acts had the chance to prove to the world their value.
It’s what happened with street art. Indeed, street art was know as intrusive, non permanent, without any message and often confused with graffitis.
With the rise of social platforms, artists have taken the right to defend theirselves in the best way. Throughout the years, street art have gain a real place into social platforms as Instagram and Pinterest. They have become an inspiration that a lot of people are searching for. Street art is finally considered as a solid art that spread messages as powerful as paintings or poems.
Recognition is one of the advantages that have emerged. Accordingly, artists are now able to show to the world their pieces and to get credit for it. We can now keep the track of each artist’s work. Artists now have found another way to express their arts, somewhere else that on walls, on their pages.
Artists as Banksy now use their pages to « promote » their work and be sure that they have the credit for it. They can also use it to annunciate future projects or collaborations.
Social media have also allowed to the artists to spread their work but also the movement. Indeed, it has never been as developed as it is now. Thanks to them, social media have allowed to hundreds of people to finally get the attention that they needed so we can take their work seriously.
We often ask if social are good for us and if they still have good parts. This shows that there is positive and negative points in everything but that you have ti perceive to find them. This is the perfect example to show that social media can do good and make things go on.
